Broadsides were single sheets of paper on which were printed the words of a song, often accompanied by simple woodcut illustrations. From the 16th to the 19th centuries they were sold in huge numbers on street corners by 'ballad sellers', who would sing the song in question in order to both attract custom, and to teach the melody of the song to their customers.
Inspired by this practice, I decided to commission prints for three of the songs from my forthcoming album. They will each contain the text from the song in question alongside linocut illustrations by artist Nick Hayes. They are being printed by the Letterpress collective in Bristol, using old wooden type on traditional latterpresses. This run of prints is limited to 50 of each song, prints will be numbered and sets of three will have matching numbers.
By purchasing these, you will get a free download of the corresponding song (months before the official release of the album).
Last post before Christmas is Monday the 21st of December.
